Saving 25 minutes took many, many small routing improvements, as well as great luck. I will try to enumerate them as we go through.
Early game
- Nice start, with a perfect random battle in Alfonso’s ship to learn Pyri. Back attack on a single guard.
- Used a new Sentinel strat involving Alpha Storm spam and buying equipment for Aika to improve consistency. Shrine encounters were scary, but basically good–could have been better.
- Good overworld luck up till escort mission, when I got ~3 random battles between passport and Valua. Keep in mind that getting an encounter and running takes about 27 seconds and winning a fight takes at least 45 seconds. So these add up very fast.
- Very good Catacombs through to Upper City. Got many of the rare encounter cancels and long walks. About 3 minutes ahead at that point.
- Got trolled hard by train guards, again. Ended up fighting them all and fell to maybe 1 minute ahead of PB.
- Pyrynn encounter luck not great. Competing against a very fast Pyrynn in PB which had just 3 encounters total. I ended up about 1 minute behind after Rokwyrm.
- However, I got a Black Map, which saved a lot of time later.
Ixa’taka
- Solid South Ocean sailing with 2 encounters, instant runs. No Ixa overworld encounters.
- Extremely good Moon Stone Mountain. Got 3 encounters and ran from all of them successfully. I think 2 encounters is the absolute best you could ever get. Usually the encounters are too risky to run from, and can play out slowly, and there are more of them. PB was not good here. So, I went from about 1 minute ahead to suddenly 6 minutes ahead.
- Very good Rixis. Got 3 encounters, where 2 is the best possible. Fought all the encounters since at this point we farmed a big speed boost for Vyse. Almost 8 minutes ahead at this point.
- Improved sailing route from King’s Hideout to Gordo, and improved strat on Gordo. No overworld encounters thru to Maw of Tartas. Suddenly almost 10 minutes ahead going into Grapors.
Nasrad / Grand Fortress
- Black Map paid huge dividends here as well as Vyse’s amped speed. Got my 15 kills in 5 encounters, with Vyse outspeeding every single Grapor, and about 12:30 ahead.
- New Daccat’s sailing route prevented overworld encounters as I hoped. 2 encounters inside Daccats, where 1 is the best possible.
- Paranta Seed farming in Pinta’s Quest was on track which is hard especially when this far ahead in pace. Forgot to do my Dhabu Hide strat on SinDes, but they used no S-moves anyway. Almost 15 minutes ahead after that fight.
- Got 4 encounters in Grand Fortress, unfortunately. We’d hope for maybe 1-2 here, and I believe it’s possible to get 0. This evened out with some of the encounter improvements around Daccats so remained roughly on pace anyways.
Delphinus thru Yafutoma
- Good overworld thru Esparanza and Yafutoma. We wear the Black Map when sailing in Dark Rift and Yafutoma, even though it raises encounter rate, because the back attack rate is so high otherwise.
- Auriga went well, with small refinements to the Cruiser (first fight) of the sequence of ship battles there. Similar refinement to Tenkou Spellship–we start firing Prototype Cannon in order to take advantage of Vyse’s big Power boost.
- Overall improvement gets us about 17:30 ahead going into Kazai.
- I was actually behind on silver magic exp due to few overworld encounters and running from encounters in MSM. So I took 2 quick encounters in Kazai. I likely only needed 1, but it at least reduced the mental load.
- Black Map hovering after encounter canceling likely caused me to take more encounters than needed. After Tortigar saved about 45 seconds, but in the segmented run I saved about 3:30 thru the same area. Tortigar did not block any PWs which you always love to see.
- Saved time compared to PB on Muraji, Draco and Bluheim. In my last PB I got bad luck on Draco and good luck here. I didn’t use Aura of Valor on Bluheim this time in part due to making better use of Vyse’s power boost with a Yamato Spirit (main cannon) strat. I also didn’t worry about getting Lv25 for Bluheim. Ended Disc 1 over 20 minutes ahead.
World is Round thru Silver Shrine
- Now we have some of the biggest route changes compared to the previous RTA record–mainly, Tikaless. I saved about 3 minutes right here due to not walking thru Horteka to recruit Tikatika.
- Good encounter luck thru Glacia. Used a Dhabu Hide strat with Vyse to ensure we outspeed and kill Veltarn on turn 3. Now over 25 minutes ahead.
- The slow part of the game now. No particularly interesting changes with Yeligar. It’s now Tikaless (meaning we can’t assume torpedos will hit in many situations), using Ancient Cannon instead, and doesn’t particularly lose much/any time. Lose a little time on encounter luck thru Dangral.
- Moved the seed shopping to before Vortex. I did the shopping pretty slow. I had missed a few Tropicas and was pretty tired by this point. But getting our seeds early pays nice dividends thru Silver Shrine here, particularly on main cannon damage.
- At Vortex, the Tikaless ship strats really come to bear. Instead of setting up some guaranteed hit torpedos, we just fire a big cannon, which may miss, and hope for the best. A single miss on any of those 3 shots would easily cost over a minute. And, this new best case saves a good chunk of time over the old strat, since firing the cannon takes fewer phases than setting up a few torpedos.
- Minor improvements such as outspeeding and Welven-ing the Shadows thanks to having already bought and used Sylphs.
Endgame
- Started Hydra rush at 26 minutes ahead. Carved out an extra 30 seconds by using Hybrid Wax on Mage Ship for a phase 2 kill and firing on 2-1 to save a phase on Galcian’s Elite. Hydra fight itself very similar to the 10:22 PB.
- My Hydra dungeon, Soltis, and Ramirez were merely good instead of amazing like in the 10:22 PB. Also, I lost my nerve when doing the Elites fight skip and had to try it twice. Thankfully it worked.
- I had a new Zelos strat involving the Aura of Valor. It can kill on 2-4 if you get enough crits, but I didn’t get them here or in my recent segmented run. So, I unfortunately only saved 30 seconds instead of about a minute there.
- Over 25 minutes ahead into Ramirez 2, and despite a Vyse Nightmare managed to finish without losing too much time against PB.
